The dry ground blocks can be used to create a delicate surface which pastels and can adhere to. For example, when applied to a soft paper the dry ground will embed itself into the surface of the paper to create a surface suitable for pastel. You can also apply the dry grounds as a layering tool when the papers tooth has been exhausted. A further application is for mixed media painting where the dry grounds can create a toothed surface over the top of acrylic or gouache etc. The blocks are essentialy tinted pumice formed with a binder.
