Diane Townsend Pastels

Diane Townsend Pastels originated in a New York City studio loft in 1971. Diane shared a studio with a conservationist who translated a 15th century Italian formula for making pastels. This formula has evolved and been improved to become the basis of the Townsend pastels today. Diane started by making pastels for herself, some for friends, then for others and eventually for all of us.

The smooth flowing application and dense pigmentation is what makes the pastels so well sought after. The pastels contain pumice which helps to disperse the pigment into the paper resulting in good adhesion.
